Petition for Lennox: 'No Olympic Torch for Belfast'

The international demand to get Lennox released by public appeal has entered a new phase with a call for boycotting the ceremony of the Olympic Torch scheduled to be carried through Belfast, Northern Ireland, where the dog has been held captive for death row for more than 600 days.

The petition, which is titled Free Lennox – No Olympic Torch for Belfast, points out the fact that Lennox has committed no crime, but has been incarcerated only because of his physical appearance and what he “might” do.

Lennox was ripped from his home in May 2010 by the Belfast City Council and tried for being a possibly dangerous dog –  though he had no history of aggression. Appeals from his family have been denied, and the case is now attracting international attention, with large numbers of supporters from around the world demanding that he be released to his family, who, according to some reports, was intimidated by the council into surrendering the dog to the authorities.

The Olympic Flame is currently scheduled to pass through Belfast on June 6 this year. Supporters of Lennox are asking the Olympic Committee not to allow the flame to pass through Belfast unless the city releases the captive dog and return him to his owner family.

The petition to boycott the Olympic Torch’s passage through Belfast is open to receiving signatures online at Change.org, and a new Facebook page has been launched to share it with users.

Paranoia rules in Northern Ireland too. Never mind the inconvenient *fact* that the dog has not shown any aggression. We just let paranoia take hold and focus on “oh no, the dog might bite someone”. Well I guess you should seize every dog on the Emerald Isle then using this criteria. Shame on you!

I have today sent an email to the Times on behalf of Lennox and his family because I was dismayed to read yesterday (I hope it wasn’t true) that this case is receiving more attention abroad than nationally. We all need to lobby as many people as possible on this one and very quickly.

    I
t would be nice if EVER ONE who supported Lennox being free would work together, be on the same page concerning the facts and be directed to contact the appropriate people.. The level of paranoia in this case is unbelievable and the need to keep power and information away from other who might help is troubling. if everyone stood behind this petition..it would make a direct impact on this case. After two years of writing letter and petitions Belfast City Council remains deaf..A Boycott is the only way to get their attention. I believe we now have their attention and we need to garnish major support ASAP. Keep the ball rolling. There are millions of dog lovers in the world and they are watching Belfast City Council.

That’s typical of Belfast City Council, they perpetually think they are above the law. Understandable really with the amount of small minded terrorists that serve as Councillors. Their behaviour is sickening to the decent person. Free Lennox!
