Dog surrendered to shelter and facing death because owner believes he’s gay

When a male dog mounts another male dog it is not a sign of homosexuality but often a sign of dominance. One uninformed owner in Tennessee surrendered his dog to an overcrowded animal shelter because he believed his dog to be gay after he noticed him “hunched over” another male dog. Now the dog has just hours to be saved from being put down by the shelter.

The dog, believed to be an American bulldog mix, was surrendered to an overcrowded animal shelter in Jackson, Tennessee.  The Jackson Rabies Control has scheduled to put down the dog today January 31st by 1 p.m. if not adopted since he was surrendered by his owner.  The shelter will open at 9 a.m. today and the adoption fee is $38. The shelter is location is as follows:

Jackson Rabies Control

146 Miller Avenue

Jackson, Tennessee

Phone: 731-668-4211

The dog is being kept in Kennel 10L.

There are only hours left to save this dog. Please share this information to help save his life.

Exactly WHY is this dog being put down??

    • Anonymous says on  January 31, 2013 at 8:15 am

Probably due to overcrowding. Our jail system might learn something on this one.

Dog was surrendered to an over-crowded (probably under-funded and over-taxed, too) shelter. There’s no any point holding the *shelter* responsible here.

Why dont they put down the owner for being homophobic? -.-‘

Is there some way funds can be set up to save this guy. Those of us in another state can’t get to him in time. Please let’s do something to save him.

I hope and pray that we all can help this dog and many more like him! And that we can share our knowledge about dogs and their way of being so to avoid stupidity like this.

  4. People have to contact the shelter to extend his time, try and find someone from CT to foster him until someone get to him and give him a loving and healthy home…. I would if I could..

I contacted Pit Bulls and Parolees… I am not sure who else to contact…. Such a SAD story!!! We already have 2 dogs and live too far away anyhow to help out :(
The previous owner should be ashamed of himself!

so many sick people, why can every idiot just go and buy a dog?

  7. Anonymous says on  January 31, 2013 at 8:46 am

Could the author please update this article with the current whereabouts of this dog?? There are people who want to adopt him but the shelter is apparently not answering calls so no one knows where he is. There are comments saying he has for now been picked up by TN Death Row dogs in Spring Hill TN and another that said a Chicago rescue group picked him up for now … If you post details, there are people willing to drive long distance to get him

Those who believe this one to be true are the ones who have to be put down. If the shelter is too crowded then the older staying dogs are the ones that will be put down first, unless the dog has rabies. (then by all means, adopt the damn dog). SECOND, take a look at the fucking picture, IT IS NOT OVERCROWDED, that cage can house 7 more gay dogs and they can do a train even. THIRD, this news is not new, this has been posted days (at least) ago..

You’re a tool. First, your screen name screams “I’M A TOOL!” Second, you’re a tool, but not just any tool. You sir/madame are an awl. You know the pointy tool at the bottom of the tool chest that most people don’t know what it is and is now completely useless.

you use this name and speak crap…not good to mock Christ, nice language sir

  14. I don’t understand how you can post a story like this and not update it. It is spreading across Facebook and other media outlets. It has received over 3000 shares in a short time.

  15. The owner is beyond stupid and should not I repeat should NOT be able to roam freely among us.

I contacted the shelter and he has been adopted!! I hope he has found his forever home!

    • Anonymous says on  January 31, 2013 at 12:40 pm

actually he was adopted but is with a rescue being vetted and temperament tested and if he tests well, that rescue will then adopt him out. But he was adopted from the shelter
      .

The more I read about Tennessee, the less I like it. Is it something in the water that makes them so STUPID AND CRUEL..?

  18. Anonymous says on  January 31, 2013 at 11:39 am

Furever Rescue Hi There! We are the back up in case they need anything. We spoke with the woman, Stephanie who already pulled him for a local rescue STAT. We hope to get an update later today . The other dogs on the euthanasia list were also rescued, woohoo!

  19. thats awesome

  20. Ive been following this guy since late last night and finally had a sigh of relief when I read that he has been RESCUED!

The ex owner needs some rescuing from his stupidity!

  21. If you were willing to adopt this dog, why not go to your local kill shelter and adopt another? They’re all going to be euthanized if not adopted in time. This one is nothing exceptional. He just got a lot more publicity than most. (Okay, so he also had a stupider owner than most, but still…)

Many dogs are surrendered because the owners got tired of them, or they stopped being cute puppies and became big, high-maintenance dogs instead. Maybe the original owner died and the relatives don’t want to care for the animal. Maybe the owner was too busy/lazy to train it not to bark, so dumped it at a shelter instead when the barking got to be too much. Maybe the dog didn’t get along with the already-installed cats, or other dog, or pet iguana. Maybe the owner didn’t want to “take away his dog’s manhood” and so ends up with ten puppies twice a year, none of which he is prepared to take care of. There are a ton of reasons why an animal ends up in a shelter, and a lot of them are stupid.

Take this dog’s story and apply it to any of the other dogs at your local shelter. They’re all just as much in need of a home.

Well said Avis! Not to mention people who got evicted from home and landlord takes them there or parents say no and kid gets dog anyway.

Just another reason to NEVER visit Tennessee. Ever.
