When the Beattie family got into a car accident on Wednesday their dog Muffin fled the accident scene and went missing. Thanks to the help of social networking Muffin was reunited with her family.

Danielle Beattie and her brother were travelling on I-10 in Louisiana with Muffin when slick conditions caused them to rear-end semi-truck. When Danielle tried to get out of the car she couldn’t walk, she had broken one of her feet and broken her toes on her other foot. The pain of Danielle’s injuries were the least of her concerns as she watched her dog Muffin flee the car and head into the nearby woods.

As soon as Danielle’s friend heard about Muffin’s disappearance they started utilizing social media to try to find her. Friends back in Texas posted pictures of Muffin on the Lost Pets of Baton Rouge Facebook page. Others started contacting shelters near the accident site.

A driver travelling on I-10 sometime well after the accident was cleared saw a dog near the road. Muffin had finally returned to the scene of the accident and was waiting for Danielle. The driver called Iberville Parish Animal Control and they were able to track Danielle down.

Thursday afternoon Danielle and Muffin were finally reunited. Danielle arrived in a wheelchair and burst into tears at the sight of Muffin. “She’s more than just a dog to me,” said Danielle. “I really didn’t think I was going to get her back.”

Danielle had been planning to return to the accident scene on Thursday to look for Muffin but got the call from animal control before she could. Muffin also injured her foot, but is otherwise doing well. “We came out of something that rarely anybody has a chance to come out of, with minimal injuries,” said Danielle. “I’m just so thankful.”
