Even through difficult economic times animal rescue organizations continue to help animals in need. This is the case with Alberta Animal Rescue Crew Society in Calgary, Canada, who just a week ago took in Lenny, an emaciated dog with an infection on his face and a back leg that can’t bear any weight. Even though the organization is in desperate need of funds and supplies, they took him in.
The sickly homeless canine arrived at a vet clinic and upon examination veterinarians discovered the canine’s femur was shattered and required amputation. X-rays also revealed the dog was abused. He had bullets lodged throughout his body.
“How he survived is beyond belief,” Deanna Thompson, Executive Director of AARCS told Calgary News.
The rescue group’s main goal now is Lenny’s health. Their financial situation is just another obstacle they, as any other rescue group, have to somehow overcome.
“Right now we are focusing on getting the animals the care they need and trying to find ways to raise funds to cover their costs,” said Thompson. “As a no-kill rescue organization we feel these animals deserve the same treatment as any family pet. They may be homeless now, but their injuries and illnesses are treatable and they need help.”
AARCS currently has over 400 homeless animals in foster care. The organization relies heavily on foster homes and donations from animal lovers.
