Forty-four small dogs were found at the end of a driveway on a remote road in Wyoming County, N.Y. All 44 dogs were stuffed into three small pet traveling crates. Each crate is made to carry one small animal at a time. The abandoned and abused animals are in poor health but on their way to a better life, thanks to the Wyoming County Animal Shelter.

The dogs, all Chihuahuas and Jack Russell Terriers were scared and covered with filth and feces when found. One of the dogs was dead inside one of the crates.

“When you go traveling on a plane, a dog would be using that,” said dog groomer Amy Worthington.

Once rescued, the dogs received their first bath, their nails were trimmed and their overall health was checked by veterinarians. All dogs seem to suffer from post traumatic stress disorder.

“You can tell they don’t like human contact,” said volunteer Kara Cavaretta. “They won’t wag their tail or come up to the cage or anything.”

The Wyoming County community has come together to try to help these innocent animals. Donations have been made to shelter including dog food, dog shampoo, cleaning supplies and money.
