This June, Colorado has been fighting what many called the state’s most destructive wildfire in history, the Black Forest fire. It all started on June 11, 2013, and so far the fire has claimed two lives and destroyed more than 400 homes.
Among those destroyed houses was Theresa Strader’s home. Strader is founder of National Mill Dog Rescue (NMDR). Throughout the years she has helped rescue more than 7,000 dogs.
Strader told KRDO news that she was able to save some items before evacuating, but not everything.
As a true rescuer, Strader continues to put the needs of animals before her own. During this ordeal, she continues to save animals that have been displaced by this massive wildfire.
Many of the dogs that Strader rescued in the past have been successfully adopted locally, and like Strader, they were also force to evacuate their homes. That was the case with Teddy.
On June 12, 2013, Teddy announced on his Facebook page that he had to evacuate his home for safety measures. His home was not destroyed by the fire.
“My hero, Theresa Strader, the founder of National Mill Dog Rescue, has lost her home, and this was where NMDR started,” wrote Teddy. “I am so very sad for her right now, but also glad she and her family and her dogs are all safe.”
