Cole Middleton, of Rains County, Texas is steaming mad.  Candy, Middleton’s cattle-herding dog, was shot, for no discernable reason, by a Sheriff’s Deputy Respond to Middleton calling 911 after his dairy and home were robbed.

The 911 call came in a little after 11:00AM.  Middleton had been out, but returned home to find he had been robbed.  Middleton had been out in the fields of his farm when the officer showed up to respond to the call.

“She’s barking when he pulls into the driveway letting me know someone’s at our house, an intruder is here, or a person who she would think was an intruder that she’s unfamiliar with,” he said. “She’s barking. The officer gets out of his car, and all the while we’re headed up [there]. He gets out of his car and shoots my dog in my front yard.”

Even though the heartless officer shot Candy through the head, it was not instantly fatal.  Middleton didn’t have a gun of his own at the time, as they were robbed from his home. Out of nothing more than shear mercy, Middleton begged and begged for the officer to stop Candy’s suffering.  The officer refused.

“And then I had to do the unthinkable, the otherwise unthinkable,” he said. “I had to kill my dog with my bare hands and put her out of her suffering, praying for this to be over with.”

The investigation into this matter is ongoing.  No word has been released if any charges will be filed against the officer, or what other consequences he may face.

  1. PLEASE tell me how this bastard has a badge? Is this really someone you want in your department protecting and serving? As soon as this story spreads, the only thing people will think about when your department is mentioned is this cruel and heartless man…He is now the face of your entire department! I can understand why his name wasn’t released…good luck at keeping that secret!

    1. Thank you Angela for getting this information out. I for one will be letting my voice be heard. LOUD and CLEAR. This man is a danger to the public. Anyone who cannot discern between a family pet protecting their own property ( One that just got robbed no less) and some kind of rabid attack dog does not have the mental capacity to know when or when not to fire his weapon. Fire him now and then charge him with animal cruelty he shot the poor innocent and then let the dog suffer even further. The family should find a good lawyer and bring a civil suit. Until police departments educate their officers on animal behavior and how to handle these situations they should face multiple law suits. This is just happening way to frequently.

  3. where do they get these guys that are so eager to shoot something, they kill the family pet? How did he even get a badge and gun with issues like this?

Fire him and paste his ugly mug all over social media. Let everyone know he shoots dogs so if he ever applies for a job and they search his name that’s the first thing that comes up.

Sad thing is they protect their an this piece of trash will probably get away with it. Hope the owner sues the department!!!!

  4. the ass hole has been indicted, now hopefully he will receive the maximum sentence. i have issues with the dps officer who made light of the situation by mocking and then threatening to arrest candy’s owner while resting his hand on his revolver. why do we not hear about any disciplinary actions with re: to this man and his insensitive behavior.
