A British dog wants nothing to do with fireworks, and on Halloween night the dog let his owners know in an unusual way that he rather be far away from home than deal with fireworks popping near his backyard.

Buddy, a Staffordshire bull terrier from Retford, UK, was hanging out in his yard when a display of fireworks went off nearby. He got spooked and jumped his fence, running away fast, but instead of running into the woods and hiding, the dog ran to a train station and hitched a 24 mile-long ride.

According to Mashable, the scared dog hopped on the 17:58 Northern Rail service to Sheffield. Various passengers and even the train conductor tried to coax the dog off the train, but the scared pooch wouldn’t budge – he just kept running and hiding underneath train seats.

Afraid the train service would be delayed, the conductor made the decision to keep up with the schedule and simply travel with the four-legged passenger on board. The train employee did notify the company about the unusual passenger, and authorities made arrangements to secure the dog once the train arrived at its destination.

Meanwhile, Buddy made a human friend on the train, and thanks to that person, the dog calmed down and enjoyed the ride. As the dog traveled in style, his owners looked for him back home.

Thanks to social media, Buddy’s owner, Lauren Trenham, found out her dog hopped on a train and where he was headed. The pet owner made plans to pick up her dog at the Sheffield station.

Buddy and his family were reunited and they now have a Halloween tale to tell in future celebrations.
