We told you about two pit bulls in Brooklyn who were forced to endure the recent blizzard outside, and we’ve been bringing you updates as they come.  We’re happy to tell you that one of the dogs has now been surrendered to Guardians of Rescue, and they are still working to save the second.

1.28.16 - Update on Brooklyn Blizzard Dogs2

To sum up what’s been going on:  Evelyn Tully-Costa is tired of hearing her neighbor’s poor dogs crying all the time.  They are always left outside, whether it’s eight degrees or eighty, with only a dilapidated shack for protection.  This has been going on for years.  She and other neighbors call the police, who make the woman let the dogs in, but as soon as they’re gone, the dogs are back outside.

When two feet of snow was dumped on the area, Tully-Costa had finally had enough, and rallied her neighborhood together to speak even louder for these poor dogs.  She took a video of the abuse and posted it online, where it quickly drew thousands of views and shares.  Police were called by dozens of people, and they arrived at the President Street house and forced the heartless woman to shovel a path to the dogs and bring them in.  As usual, she had them back outside as soon as the commotion died down, but that’s when the Guardians of Rescue stepped in.

The hugely popular rescue group is known for getting people to surrender their tethered dogs into their care, and providing insulated shelters and straw for the dogs whose owners insist on keeping them outside to suffer.  They’ve been needling the pit bulls’ owner into surrendering them for several days now, but in the meantime, has fixed up their derelict shanty.

Current laws in the state of New York ARE straightforward, so the police and ASPCA need to do their jobs and actually enforce them!

“For all dogs that are left outdoors in inclement weather, a housing facility, which must: (1) have a waterproof roof; (2) be structurally sound with insulation appropriate to local climatic conditions and sufficient to protect the dog from inclement weather; (3) be constructed to allow each dog adequate freedom of movement to make normal postural adjustments, including the ability to stand up, turn around and lie down with its limbs outstretched; and (4) allow for effective removal of excretions, other waste material; dirt and trash. The housing facility and the area immediately surrounding it shall be regularly cleaned to maintain a healthy and sanitary environment and to minimize health hazards.”

What is vague about this??  These dogs should have been seized – yesterday!

Hopefully this cruel beast will surrender her other dog, too.  Sadly, she will likely just get more, because she believes that she needs them for her “protection,” but fails to understand that dogs who are forced to live in a hovel in the yard aren’t protecting her at all, and are the ones who need protection from her.

We will keep you updated on this case’s progress.

  1. Storm in take the poor mistreated animal from this horrible human , stop pussy footing around she has no rights .. After you get the dog .. Shove her in the kennel !

  2. well, i hope they surrender the 2nd as well. Would hate to think that remaining dog will be left all by its lonesome out there. That will take its toll on the poor dogs emotional state now being all alone 🙁

  3. I would like to see the finished dog house that’s supposingly warm! The dog is going to miss the other dog that’s been with it for 13 years!! The owner is very selfish. She is the type of person who should never own an animal!!

  4. Good grief!! The owner has had enough chances to change these poor dogs living conditions. How many more chances does she need? I’m glad progress is being made but enough is enough. I just hope the other dog is released from this hell soon!!

  5. Why only one? I would say this is animal abuse and they should be able to take them? Let them live outside in the toasty dog house

  6. Was thinking the same thing poor dog that is left behind has now no friend and no snuggle buddy to help keep warm, hope he/she is resuced soon

  7. GET BOTH THE DOGS THE HELL OUT OF THERE NOW!!! Drag the low-life owner/s outside & chain them up, strip them naked and leave them to experience the absolute pain & suffering they caused

  8. Thank god one was saved and for everyone saying the other one is now missing it’s buddy. They actually did not get along at all and had to be kept separate in the yard. Praying they get the other dog out too

  9. From Canada and our National News has covered this story. There are a huge number of animal activists here and we are all rallying behind the second dog to be rescued … Just say’n

  10. wtf…wtf.. why do people have animals if you can’t friggen TREAT them like a member of the family….”hellllllloooo”……………………… they not a piece of furniture or accessories… you stupid morons……make these evil ppl keep their a$$ OUT IN A BLIZZARD….burrrrrrrrrrrr right !!! just cant stand stupid…smh…!!!!!!!!

  11. PLEASE GET BOTH !!!!NOW AFTER ALL THE YEARS THEY BOTH SPENT TOGETHER CANT BREAK THEM UP THE OTHER ONE IS SOOOO LONELY AS I SPEAK GET THE OTHER PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HELP THE OTHER ONE!!!!!!!!!!!!

  12. So glad one is saved, but the other one needs out of this horror too. She should not be allowed to have animals – endo of subject. If the place you are keeping them is not where you would stay, then neither shhould the dogs. Make her stay in this makeshift home and see if she likes it. You are a rotten woman and I pray to God you get it in the end.

  13. God is great, Go’s bless. Some parts of Brooklyn need to be investigate a lot drugs and they use the dogs and mistreat them.

  14. Cops need to do their job. It is obvious that the dog is not being properly cared for and the law says the dogs can be taken away. This women’s picture needs to be given to every breeder and animal shelter so you can never get another dog again.

  15. Donm’t understand whay she cannot be arrested and dogs taken away. It’s plain animal cruelty. The owner nevber needs to own another pet.

  16. Thanks for the update. Prayers for the second doggie and may the Lord also work on the heartless woman so that she doesn’t do this to anymore dogs.

  17. ” Do unto others what you want done unto you. ” The cruel owner should be held legally and financially accountable and is telling society and the justice system what he wants done unto him. Forced to live outside, no clothes, shoes, towels….frozen to his death sentence!

  18. TAKE the other one….embarrass the human who is inhumane…picket….show his picture on fb..and how he treats animals…where does he/she work? List that too!!! If You Love Me, Put a Leash On Me

  19. Guardians offered her money for the 2 dogs…she said no….wonder why she decided to give up the BLIND one…as for seeing photos of the new dog house, she barely let Guardians on her property to begin with…she’s not about to give permission to take photos of the new one…..

  20. Hoping you are successful with saving the second dog. You really have to wonder why people who don’t care enough to bring the dog inside claim to care too much to give the dog up.

  21. after rescue another one , grab the owner and chained their neck with padlock and place them outside where the dog house where they were living their ass freeze..

  22. Thanku for you help of the dog that is left. Why is it so hard to get these mistreated animals for there abusers. She should try being out in that type of weather. She wouldn’t last a minute. Karma shal get this person

  23. GET THE OTHER DOG OUT OF THERE, TAKE SOME CONTROL WE HAVE PLUMMETING TEMPS COMING NEXT WEEK IN THE MIDWEST GOING EAST, PLEASE DON’T LET THAT DOGGIE FREEZE TO DEATH.

  24. Make it compulsory don’t stand an watch, wtf if you can c a crime being Committed do something. They aren’t going to stop you, with so much coverage are they. Bastards

  25. Will this coverment, help stop slaughter of animals in china.?Thay are heartless cruel and Inhuman.
