Richmond, VA, dog lovers have a new place for treats!
Abbella Cakes dog bakery, already a hit in cyberspace, has made the move to brick and mortar. The Stony Point Fashion Park mall store opened earlier this morning.

Owner/baker Eileen Bible plans to continue online sales, but is delighted to have a place where customers can pop in for canine confections so pretty, many look quite fit for human consumption. Doggie cookies, ice cream, cannoli, and cupcakes fill the cases, and while you may not want to taste them, you certainly could. Abbella’s treats are made with rye flour — no corn or soy. Fresh fruits and veggies are incorporated often; salt, sugar and artificial flavors or preservatives are not. The confection inventory is offset by dog “beer” and “sushi” and even accessories.

Most inventory for the business, inspired by and named for Bible’s two dogs, Abby and Stella, is made in-house. Bible’s new space hosts and caters dog birthday parties and other special, pet-centric events, as well. These will take place in the back of the 1,153-square-foot store, in a room Bible calls “the dog house.”

Her store was a neat fit, now occupying the space where Three Dog Bakery, a name affiliate with a national chain, once operated. It’s doors closed back in October.

“We’ve been in business for four years,” Bible told the Richmond Times-Dispatch, “and, with Three Dog Bakery closing, our sales have increased. We decided to pursue this opportunity to grow our business.”
