A dog that was recently brought into the Wake County Animal Center, and may have actually set a record for the shortest stay ever. The dog was nicknamed Pikachu by staff at the shelter, and after being there just a few short hours, she’s found a forever family that promises to take care of her for the rest of her days.
“One of our shelter volunteers saw this dog running along Beacon Lake Road by the animal center Saturday morning with its leash still on,” said Jennifer Lynn Federico. Federico is the Animal Services Director at the Wake County Animal Center. “She picked up the dog and brought it to the shelter.”
According to someone also in the area the dog was found in, they had seen someone literally push her out of a moving vehicle and take off without looking back. It all happened so fast, and unfortunately, the other witness wasn’t able to get a license plate number in time.
Aside from the obvious fact that this dog is just adorable, her short stay in the shelter could in part be down to the Clear the Shelter Campaign that has been going on across the USA this weekend. Whatever the reason, this sweet little dog has a lot to be thankful for today. According to shelter staff, they barely got her checked in and set up with a kennel before people were literally lining up to adopt.
“She was immediately put through our intake procedure and put on our adoption floor,” said Federico. “Since we have to consider Pikachu a stray, we have to wait a few days before we can finalize her adoption, but she will be going home soon with her new family.”
The weekend campaign isn’t quite over yet, and many places across the USA are still totaling up how many adoptions were placed this time around. However, the number being reported as of the time this was written is about 40,000 adoptions. Stay tuned to www.lifewithdogs.tv for an official number for this years event!
