Elvis is losing his sight because of a genetic disease and his owners surrendered him, thinking they were unprepared to deal with a blind dog.

Elvis’ foster family respects and treasures him for who he is, and they are helping him to adapt to his decreasing vision. With their help, Elvis should have great quality of life once he loses his sight.

  1. Erica & Ren – I find it amazing that in the four lines written above you have all the details to be so judgemental of the people that gave up Elvis. Yes, it’s not a nice situation but it does not tell the full story – you do not know their circumstances nor what his condition is or what needs to be done. Good luck to Elvis and any other dog looking for a forever home.

  2. A dog in the family is a lifetime commitment, like any other family member. If you can’t make the commitment, leave the dog to someone who can.

  3. I think it was far better that the owners admit their inability to manage Elvis and give him to someone who could than have him stay with them and suffer neglect. I can’t imagine how anyone could give up their Lab that way but better than neglect or worse still euthanasia.

  4. I have a blind dachshund, Harper. He was owner surrendered at high kill shelter. I rescued him on behalf of Dachshund Rescue south Florida. I fostered him and the adopted him. He is my 5 th dachshund and other than bumping into things now and then he is no different than the others. He can go in and out the doggie door, finds the water and food bowls with no problems. People give up their dogs SUCK!!!!!!

  5. Some people are weak and can’t deal with anything unpleasant. Let’s hope their kids put them in a home when they can no longer care for them selves.
