On Jan. 26, 2014, a dog owner and his Pit bull puppy became stranded in Torrey Pines Cliff, located outside San Diego, Calif. Lucky for the pair, beach goers saw the man signaling for help and lifeguards were informed about the man in need.

Lifeguards set up pulley system to reach the man, but they had no idea the stranded man was not alone – his companion pet, a black and white Pit bull puppy, was also stranded on the cliff.

“Once the rescuer got down there, we determined he also had a companion down there,” Lifeguard Lt. Rich Stropy told 760 KFMB. “A little pit bull puppy was in a milk crate at the time.”

Both, man and puppy were rescued and hoisted to safety. Neither reported any injuries.
