When a blind dog named Dolly went missing recently, her young human naturally wrote a letter to Santa, asking for him to bring her home.  Amazingly, Dolly was soon returned to her family.

Someone stole her from outside of a shop near her Sowerby Bridge, UK home.  Darren Kerr and his daughter Isla had popped inside to quickly buy an ice cream, and when they came out, their Boston terrier was gone.

CCTV footage showed someone walking off with her.

“Whoever took her just unclipped her lead and led her away,” mom Vanessa Meskimmon told the Mirror.  “She’s a very friendly dog so she would have let someone take her, but when she is somewhere she doesn’t know she gets very scared.  She doesn’t like loud noises and she’s frightened of being told off. She is completely blind and will be so scared.”

Dolly requires daily medication, and her family would’ve done anything to get her back home safely.

Seven-year-old Isla Kerr was heartbroken when her dear Dolly went missing, but she had an idea.   She told her mom “Santa can do anything,” and wrote him a letter, asking to have him returned.

“Dear Santa, All I want for Christmas is my dog to come back.  I do not care about presents, all I care about is my dog Dolly to come home. I miss her so much and love her. Love Isla Kerr xxxx.”

The family also called police, put up posters, and made public appeals.  A local taxi company even offered to pick up Dolly for free, with no questions asked.

Five days later, a man who had seen the posters called Vanessa to say he found Dolly alone in a park.  Darren met the man and confirmed that it was indeed their dog.

“Isla was with her friend next door, making posters for her appeal, when her daddy went round and said, ‘Someone wants to see you.’  Isla was absolutely delighted, and so was Dolly,” Vanessa said.  “Dolly was so excited, she was wriggling and jumping up and licking our faces, she was so happy.  Isla didn’t get much sleep last night, she was so excited to have Dolly back. She wouldn’t let her go.”

The person who stole the dog may have thought that she was worth money, and didn’t realize that a blind dog would be more trouble than she was worth.

“Isla thinks that Santa has helped her out, but she also knows that she has played a big part in that.  She has now reverted back to her original list, which included a Barbie house, some Heelies roller shoes and a Reborn newborn doll,” Vanessa said.

“Dolly can’t see us but she knows who we are, she knows she’s home and it’s so lovely. She is part of our family. We can’t stop cuddling her, we’re so pleased to have her back.”
