Mindy tells Evan all her secrets.

Evan Moss, a too-cute-to-be-legal 8-year-old boy, has a new best friend. Her name is Mindy and she’s an 11-month-old cute Golden Retriever and Standard Poodle mix. Mindy has been trained to detect seizures before they happen. Evan has severe seizures due to epilepsy.

Last year Evan wrote a book entitled, “My Seizure Dog,” hoping to raise $13,000, enough to buy a service dog. Evan drew the pictures and dictated the story to his Mom. Lisa Moss, Evan’s Mom, self-published the book on Amazon, set up a book signing in July 2011, and hoped for the best. What they got was nothing short of miraculous. Thanks to a story in the Washington Post about Evan and his book, over 600 people lined up outside the Grounded Coffee to buy the book, many with their own service dogs, and came from as far away as Pennsylvania and New Jersey.  Evan’s book was No. 1 on Amazon’s Bestseller list of Children’s Health books and raised $20,000 within a week.

Evan wrote a book, "My Seizure Dog," to raise funds for his own service dog.

Evan’s book raised a total of $45,000, enough for Evan to buy his own service dog and service dogs for 7 other people. People magazine flew the Moss family to 4 Paws for Ability, an Ohio-based group that raises and trains service dogs. The first time Evan met Mindy, he stated, “I can’t believe she has bows in her hair. I’m a boy!” When Evan was asked what he likes most about Mindy
