locaA veteran of the Vietnam war who lives in New Mexico is terminally ill. Loca is his 9-year-old rescue dog that has been helping him for the past several years. Unfortunately, the veretan is terminally ill with brain cancer and can no longer care for Loca. Now a rescue organization in Albuquerque, New Mexico are trying to find Loca a new home.

The man is very grateful for the therapy Loca has provided to him over the past seven and a half years. Loca was rescued at the age of one, after being abused as a puppy. She has lived with veteran ever since and has been amazingly responsive to his issues stemming from the Vietnam war even though she has no formal training.

Unfortunately, the veteran is now dying from brain cancer. He is in hospice care with little time left to live. He was able to find a woman to take Loca temporarily but she can’t keep Loca much longer. The woman hopes to find Loca a home before she has to resort to putting her in a shelter.

New Mexico Animal Friends is helping to try to find Loca the loving home she deserves. Loca is a short haired mixed breed and is very loving and affectionate. She is not used to children or small dogs though and would be best in a home without them. She is also available to be fostered if a permanent home can’t be found right away. Anyone interested in adopting or fostering Loca can call New Mexico Animal Friends at 505-881-7297.
